The kit & hardware
What is in a HEXR kit, how the parts connect, and how to power, charge and size the glove.
What is in the kit
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| 1The glove | Worn on the hand. Contains no electronics, battery or wiring, and is available in two sizes and three colourways |
| 2The arm module | Straps around the wrist and holds all of the electronics: the power button, the battery indicator, the USB-C port, and the port the glove connects into |
| 3The battery pack | Attaches magnetically to the arm module. Removable, so a drained pack can be replaced with a charged one. Charges by USB-C or on its magnetic charger |
| 4The magnetic connector | On the end of each glove's cable. It joins the glove to its arm module, guided into place by magnets |
| 5The glove port | The connector's other half, at the top of each arm module. The glove's connector (4) snaps onto it, and the module's air reaches each finger through it. It only fits its own side: the magnets are reversed between left and right, so a mismatched pair pushes apart |
| The magnetic charger | Not in the photo. One per battery pack, so you can charge a spare while you keep working |
The magnetic connector is reversed between sides, so a left glove repels a right module instead of mating with it. If a connector pushes back, you have mismatched sides — not a faulty magnet.
Magnetic connectors
The glove's connector meets the port on the arm module at the wrist, and the battery pack attaches to the module the same way. Both are guided magnetically into alignment.
Sizes and colourways
Left and right gloves are separate items, and each comes in two sizes.
| Size | Length |
|---|---|
| S | 18 cm |
| M | 22 cm |
These are the glove's own measurements, taken from the tip of the middle finger to the base of the glove — not hand measurements.
Choosing a colourway
HEXR gloves come in red, orange and mustard. The choice affects hand-tracking, so it is not purely cosmetic: pick the colourway that contrasts most with the background the hands will be seen against.
Power
Press and hold the power button on the arm module to switch it on. Press and hold again to switch it off.
Battery indicator
The light on the arm module reports the charge level of the battery pack.
| Light | Charge |
|---|---|
| Green | Fully charged |
| Blue | Between 30% and 90% |
| Red | Low — swap or charge the pack |
Your application can read the same value in code — see GetBatteryLevel() in the SDK reference.
Charging
There are two ways to charge, and they suit different situations.
| Method | Use it when |
|---|---|
| USB-C into the arm module, with the battery attached | Charging the kit as one piece, between sessions or overnight |
| Magnetic battery charger, battery on its own | Charging a spare pack while the kit stays in use |
A pack runs roughly three hours of continuous use. When one runs down, a quick swap puts you back in the session far faster than waiting on a recharge — which is why spare packs are worth having for back-to-back demo or training days.
Connecting to your application
HEXR does not pair through your operating system's Bluetooth settings, and there is no separate Microtube app to set it up in. Your own application opens the connection over Bluetooth Low Energy — a Unity project through the com.microtube.hexr package, or a Python script through the control library.
Two different jobs, two different tools. To check a glove works, with no code at all, use the free HEXR Tester app on Windows, Mac or Android. To use the glove in an application of your own, integrate the package or the Python library. The tester is a test tool, not a runtime: your application does not need it, and it does not add haptics to other applications.
From there, Calibration & fit covers connecting from your own project, and the Unity and Python guides take it on.
