New Atlas explained how the glove works. Five thread-like sensors, each a stretchy hollow fibre filled with liquid metal, run along the fingers. Bending a finger stretches the fibre and lowers the current through it, and software turns the five signals into three-dimensional hand gestures. Eleven gestures had been mapped to controller functions, enough to play Battlefield V.
At about 40 grams, the prototype could also suit hand rehabilitation. The article names Microtube, founded by Professor Lim Chwee Teck, Dr Yeo Joo Chuan and Dr Yu Longteng, as the company commercialising it.
