FLEXR

Custom sensing projects, engineered on FLEXR
The platform

Flexible sensing for stretch and pressure.

FLEXR is a soft, flexible, stretchable sensor that measures stretch and pressure with extreme sensitivity. It stretches up to three times its length yet detects deformation below one percent, and fits almost any form factor — wearables are just one of the ways we use it.

It's also the platform behind our own technologies. The sensor is one material; what changes is how it is shaped, mounted and integrated — and that is what brings out a different characteristic each time. The same tube reads a joint bending in a wearable, force against a surface in a clinical device, and the fine strain of a muscle in a research rig. It is how one sensor becomes an adaptive mouse, a CPR neck sensor and a cannulation glove.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is FLEXR?
FLEXR is a soft, stretchable sensor — a fine polymer tube — that measures stretch and pressure. It fits almost any form factor, so it can be built into wearables, clinical devices and robotics.
How does FLEXR sense?
As the soft polymer tube is stretched, bent or pressed, its electrical resistance changes — and that change is exactly what FLEXR measures, turning movement and force into a clean signal.
How sensitive and stretchable is it?
FLEXR stretches up to three times its length yet detects deformation below one percent, so it captures both large movements and the smallest ones.
Can it be built into wearables or fabric?
Yes. It's thin, soft and flexible enough to integrate into a sleeve, band or garment — and can even be woven into fabric when a design calls for it, rather than bonded rigidly on top.
What have you built with FLEXR?
FLEXR powers our ARIS strength tracker and a range of commissioned devices — from an adaptive computer mouse to a CPR neck sensor and other clinical and research tools.
Can you build a custom sensor for us?
Yes — bring us a sensing challenge and we'll design and build the device on the FLEXR platform. Get in touch to talk it through.
