Singapore’s Chinese-language daily Lianhe Zaobao featured the HaptGlove, developed over more than two years at NUS’s Institute for Health Innovation & Technology. Wearing it, people can feel the shape, size and softness of virtual objects, and moving feedback such as a beating heart or raindrops landing on the hand. The reporter found it light, with the fingers free to move.
The team saw medical training as a key use, including traditional Chinese medicine, where pulse diagnosis is learned by touch. Dr Yeo Joo Chuan described the work to prepare the glove for commercial production, including an interface for developers to design their own haptics, and work on augmented reality.
