Cannulation Training

Commissioned project · 2020
Overview

A FLEXR thumb sensor paired with a dummy arm and an AI avatar, so nurses can practise cannulation and get real feedback on their technique.

A commissioned medical project built on FLEXR: a complete training rig for cannulation — the delicate skill of guiding a needle or cannula into a vein. We built a FLEXR thumb sensor that couples with a dummy hand and arm and an AI-driven virtual avatar, giving nurses a realistic, repeatable way to practise.

As the trainee works on the dummy limb, the thumb sensor captures the fine movement and pressure of their technique and feeds it straight back to the training programme — turning a hands-on procedure into measurable, objective feedback they can act on and improve.
