Singapore General Hospital began training its nurses in IV cannulation with an immersive, game-based module called IV NIMBLE (Nursing Innovation in Mobility-based Learning). It was developed by a team of SGH nurses together with Serious Games Asia and Microtube, which the article describes as a sensor-solutions developer.
The module combines a virtual patient to talk to, a 3D-printed hand that mimics the feel of skin, and a pressure-sensing glove that measures the pressure of cannulation, with results shown on an analytics dashboard. About 120 SGH nurses had tried it, and the team planned more patient scenarios and other procedures, such as taking blood.
